Overseer was the name given by Mintakans to their primitive god early in their history. By 2366 belief in the Overseer had been discarded in favor of rational empiricism, but the exposure of a Federation anthropology team on Mintaka III in that year briefly revived the traditional beliefs. For a time, Jean-Luc Picard was taken to be the embodiment of the Overseer who was subsequently referred to as The Picard. Eventually, however, Picard was able to dispel the notion that he was the Overseer. (TNG: "Who Watches The Watchers")
