Peter S. Beagle (born 20 April 1939; age 69) is an American writer, primarily of fantasy novels and screenplays. He is perhaps best-known for his 1968 fantasy novel The Last Unicorn. He also wrote the screenplay for Ralph Bakshi's 1978 animated version of The Lord of the Rings, which in turn was indirectly responsible for Peter Jackson's blockbuster The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. In the Star Trek franchise, Beagle wrote the screenplay for the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Sarek". He publishes through Conlan Press, a company run by his friend Connor Freff Cochran.
