Plasma phaser

A plasma phaser was a proposed weapon for use against the Borg.

While discussing an eminent Borg invasion in 2366, Lieutenant Commander Shelby suggested a modification to the plasma phaser design. William T. Riker, speaking for himself and the rest of the exhausted senior staff of the USS Enterprise-D, suggested taking a rest.

It was projected that this and other weapons designed to defend against the Borg would take eighteen to twenty-four months to be ready. (TNG: "The Best of Both Worlds")
