Plasma rifle

A plasma rifle was a weapon used by many species. The weapons were used on the planet Earth during the mid-22nd century. This rifle modification of a plasma weapon was standard issue for the Earth Starfleet before the advent of the phase weapon.

These weapons were also used by Human civilians of that era. A farmer named Moore owned a plasma rifle, which he carried to defend his property in Broken Bow, Oklahoma during a shootout between a Klingon and two Suliban. In the fracas, Moore used the weapon to incapacitate, and severely wound, the Klingon courier Klaang. This was the first recorded contact between a human and a Klingon. (ENT: "Broken Bow")

In an alternate version of 1944, Vosk planned to deploy the soldiers of the Na'kuhl / Nazi alliance with weapons which he called plasma rifles. The weapons fired a modulating plasma pulse to destroy an American tank. Although they were powerful, they were also difficult to maneuver and required considerable amounts of energy. This weapon was also referred to as a "plasma shotgun" in the script of "Broken Bow".

The Dominion made use of plasma rifles through its soldiers, the Jem'Hadar. (DS9: "Tacking Into the Wind")

It is likely that the Dominion's plasma rifles are more powerful than those used in the 22nd century by humans.
