Pogo paradox

From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference.

In temporal mechanics, the Pogo paradox is similar to a predestination paradox, but where interference designed to prevent an event actually triggers the same event. (VOY: "Relativity")

Known Pogo paradoxes include Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Data creating an inverse tachyon pulse at the same location in three different time periods, thereby creating the same temporal anomaly Picard initially was determined to examine. (TNG: "All Good Things...")

In 2373, a Pogo paradox resulted as a Borg sphere attempted to prevent the launch of humanity's first warp ship, the Phoenix by traveling back in time to the year 2063. The interference was halted by the actions of the USS Enterprise-E, and history was restored. (Star Trek: First Contact; VOY: "Relativity")

Another instance was when Captain Braxton travels back in time to destroy USS Voyager in order to prevent the destruction of the Sol system in a temporal explosion. (VOY: "Relativity", "Future's End", "Future's End, Part II")

The name "Pogo Paradox" is probably derived from the 20th century comic strip Pogo, created by Walt Kelly. One of the most famous quotations from that comic strip was, "We have met the enemy and he is us."
