Portage Creek

Portage Creek is a town in the state of Indiana, United States of America. The town has its own police force called the Portage Creek Police Department (PCPD).

In 2001, construction of the Millennium Gate commenced in Portage Creek, prompting many businesses in the town to shut down, such as the local newspaper whose offices moved - The Morning Observer. One store called Alexandria Books, owned by Henry Janeway, would not close down despite being asked to. Shannon O'Donnell (an ancestor of Kathryn Janeway) met Henry Janeway and was able to convince him to close the shop before New Years Eve, even after some conflicts between the two individuals. Construction on the Millennium Gate continued.

Portage Creek itself does not exist. There is a city called Portage in the state of Indiana, though it is a northwestern Indiana suburb of Chicago far north of the south-central Indiana location implied in the episode.
