Residential pods are living quarters employed on some Federation colonies, like the doomed Melona colony.
The residential pods on the planet would have surrounded the school and arts center and would have been located close to the hospital facilty. The planet was devastated by the Crystalline Entity before any structure was built however. (TNG: "Silicon Avatar")
