The Rigelian scoutship was heavily-armed starships used under the authority of the Rigelian Trade Commission during the mid-22nd century. As scouts, these starships had small crew compliments of around seventeen.
In late-2154, a Rigelian scoutship was attacked by what appeared to be the Earth starship Enterprise. The scoutship was damaged but was able to return fire and inflict moderate damage on its attacker. The scoutship was allowed to transmit a distress call moments before it was destroyed.
Following the incident, the Rigelian Trade Commission recognized the attacking vessel, and demanded compensation from Starfleet and the arrest of Jonathan Archer, the Enterprise's commander, for the loss of their vessel.
It was later determined that the attacking vessel was, instead, a Romulan drone-ship, holographically disguised as an Earth ship. (ENT: "United")
