Romulus and Remus

From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference

For the planets of the same name, see Romulus and Remus.
The she-wolf suckling young Romulus and Remus.

Romulus and Remus were human twins born on the planet Earth in the 8th century BC. Legends stated that the brothers, when infants, were nursed to health by a she-wolf. The brothers eventually founded the ancient European city of Rome, and Romulus murdered his brother over where the city should be located, becoming the first King of Rome.

The Capitoline Wolf, a bronze sculpture depicting the wolf suckling the infant boys, was seen in the time stream as Earth's timeline realigned itself after Jonathan Archer and the crew of Enterprise successfully thwarted a temporal incursion by the Na'kuhl. (ENT: "Storm Front, Part II")

[edit] Background

According to The Worlds of the Federation, as the indigenous names for the major worlds of the Romulan Star Empire were unknown, the names Romulus and presumably also Remus were used by the Federation presumably after these two historical figures.
