Sarpeidon or Beta Niobe I was a Class M planet destroyed in the Beta Niobe supernova of 2269. Many events of Sarpeidon's past parallel events in Earth history, including an extended period of global glaciation and paranoia due to fears of witchcraft. (TOS: "All Our Yesterdays")
[edit] Background
Spock claimed to a Sarpeidon native that this planet was "millions of light years away" from his own home planet, Vulcan. If that were the case, this planet would have been outside the Milky Way Galaxy, which is 100,000 light years at its widest. Captain Kirk indicated earlier that "even at maximum warp, the Enterprise couldn't get to Andromeda Galaxy for thousands of years" two and a half million light years away, and the USS Voyager a century later would have taken 75 years to just cross the Milky Way Galaxy under regular warp propulsion. (TOS: "By Any Other Name"; VOY: "Caretaker")
For the 2007 remastered version of "All Our Yesterdays", Sarpeidon was given a CGI-makeover, now a unique planet rather than a reuse of stock footage.
