Scouter-gig

The scouter-gig was a small motorboat that was carried aboard Constitution-class Federation starships during the late-2260s. This craft was stowed aboard in case the starship ever needed to disembark crew to explore the surface of an oceanic terrain. (TAS: "The Ambergris Element")

It is unclear how the scouter-gig made it to the surface of Argo. The scouter-gig is presumably one of many terrain-specialized pieces of equipment on Federation starships, such as the aqua-shuttle, or the USS Enterprise-E's Argo buggy.
