Sirella in 2374
Gender: Female
Species: Klingon
Occupation: Mistress of the House of Martok
Father: Linkasa
Martial Status: Married
Spouse(s): Martok
Children: At least one son named Drex
Played by: Shannon Cochran

Lady Sirella, daughter of Linkasa, was Martok's wife and Mistress of the House of Martok.

Sirella was of noble descent, tracing her maternal lineage back to Shenara, daughter of Emperor Reclaw of the Second Dynasty. However, her 23rd maternal grandmother was actually named Karana, a concubine. (DS9: "You Are Cordially Invited")

Upon her marriage to Martok, she moved into his house. She left the door of the house open, allowing Martok's pet targ to escape. Even though she was responsible for the loss of the creature he had had since he was a boy, Martok would later tell Benjamin Sisko he would "not trade Sirella for all the targs on Qo'noS." (DS9: "Strange Bedfellows")

Although she was completely different from the woman Martok thought he married, (he thought of her as a mercurial, arrogant, prideful woman who didn't have sex with him as much as he want to) his love for her is very deep. (DS9: "You Are Cordially Invited")

She was opposed to Worf joining the house of Martok, but eventually accepted she could do nothing about it. (DS9: "You Are Cordially Invited")

A proud and headstrong woman, Sirella was originally opposed to the marriage between Worf and Jadzia Dax, believing that by allowing aliens to join her house would threaten their identity as Klingons. Since as Mistress she has the duty of approving all marriages into the family, she came to Deep Space 9 to evaluate Dax's worthiness. Sirella's views led her to set Dax's standards impossibly high, eventually causing a clash between them and to her cancelling the wedding. Dax eventually begged her forgiveness, changing Sirella's mind about her. Sirella later performed the wedding ceremony. (DS9: "You Are Cordially Invited")

In 2375, Sirella sent Martok several cases of bloodwine. (DS9: "Treachery, Faith and the Great River")

Ezri recalled Sirella's words at the wedding after Worf disappeared in the Badlands later that year. (DS9: "Penumbra")

[edit] Background

Sirella appeared in J.G. Hertzler's The Left Hand of Destiny novels, dying in book 2.

In Articles of the Federation, Martok finds Praetor Tal'aura's voice to be similar to Sirella's, an in-joke by Keith R.A. DeCandido, as both characters were played by Shannon Cochran.

Ralph Cirella (pronounced "Sirella") is a member of "The Howard Stern Show" staff known for his hypercritical and cutting evaluations of women wishing to pose for "Playboy" magazine. He is also ridiculed on the show in song as "While everyone's out earning their paycheck, you're at home just watching 'Star Trek'" for his being a Trek fan. In Sirella's first appearance on Deep Space Nine, she serves to evaluate Jadzia's worthiness to marry Worf.
