Spatial trajector

The spatial trajector module

The spatial trajector is a type of folded-space transporter used by the Sikarians. In 2371, the USS Voyager discovered the trajector on the planet Sikaris, where it was in widespread use. The device had a range of over 40,000 light years.

In an attempt to reduce their travel time back to the Alpha Quadrant, Captain Janeway tried to negotiate for the technology, but was refused access by the planet's leaders. Consequently, members of the Voyager crew made a deal with a Sikarian trader, exchanging a full copy of Voyager's library for a trajector control module, and attempted to install it aboard the starship. It was discovered that Sikaris' unique crystalline mantle was the secret behind the success of the trajector, and the technology could only be used there. Nevertheless, an attempt to create the trajector field was made. The process created an unexpected level of anti-neutrinos, which bombarded the plasma manifold, causing a near-breach of the warp core. Attempts to shut down the trajector field failed, and the breach was only averted by the physical destruction of the module. It was realized that trajector technology was incompatible with that of the Federation. (VOY: "Prime Factors")
