Squill is a type of plant native to Balancar, which is commercially grown and used to make syrup of squill. (DS9: "The Magnificent Ferengi")
In the real world, squill is the common name of a flowering plant native to Europe, Asia, and Africa, and "squill liquid extract" is used as an ingredient in cough medicines. It is not known whether the writers used the name as an intentional gag, or if it was used by coincidence.
