The Star Trek trading card set released by Leaf in 1967 was the first such set released. The set was only released on a limited scale due to the company's small distribution area (Ohio and Illinois), and was quickly recalled as a result of licensing issues. As such, it is extremely rare.
The cards contained black and white images from various episodes, as well as blooper images from filming, coupled with reverse-side text that was largely fabricated, and had little connection to the episode the image originated from.
A European release of the set had been in the pipeline, but was never released due to the aforementioned licensing difficulties. An unauthorized reprint of the set took place in 1981.
