Strategic operations officer

The strategic operations officer was a post held by Lieutenant Commander Worf on Deep Space 9 from his assignment there in 2372, until he was made ambassador to the Klingon Empire in 2375. (DS9: "The Way of the Warrior", "Soldiers of the Empire", "What You Leave Behind")
As the strategic operations officer, Worf reported directly to Deep Space 9's commander, Benjamin Sisko. Worf's primary duty as strategic operations officer was to coordinate all starfleet activity within the sector, of which Deep Space 9 was a part. (DS9: "Hippocratic Oath") In addition, he also had other various responsibilities aboard the space station stretching across several departments including:
- Recalibrating weapons (someone with combat experience)
- Intelligence officer (Starfleet officer with a level 4 security rating or higher)
- Fleet liaison officer
From time to time, Worf worked with Odo on security-related matters. He was also the first officer aboard the USS Defiant, which was assigned to Deep Space 9. (DS9: "Crossfire", "Starship Down")
In 2374, Quark enticed Nog into helping him and Rom rescue Ishka from the Dominion by telling him that they were planning to make him the "strategic operations officer" of their team, "exactly like Commander Worf". (DS9: "The Magnificent Ferengi")
- It is unclear whether the position of strategic operations officer was created when Worf decided to remain on Deep Space 9, and if not, who was the strategic operations officer before him.
