Symmetric warp field

From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference

A regulated proton burst directed at an unstable antimatter reaction (most commonly used in the event of a loss of warp core integrity) will immediately create a containment field around it, thus preventing further expansion. On a large scale, once the burst stabilizes the first reaction, it will replicate itself repeatedly until the entire process is stable. The procedure takes no more than a second under normal conditions.

Tom Paris suggested using this technique on an unstable Benthan coaxial warp core. (VOY: "Vis à Vis")
