• It is possible that Macklin was intended to be a substitute for science-fiction and science writer Isaac Asimov. Robots play a heavy role in Macklin's writing (Asimov was the creator of the "Three Laws of Robotics") and two of Macklin's stories, "Federation and Empire" and "Third Foundation" are exceptionally similar to the names of two of Asimov's stories, "Foundation and Empire" and "Second Foundation." "Me, Android" is also in obvious reference to "I, Robot", another Asimov tale. In addition, Macklin receives a contract from Gnome Press, the same publishing house that first published Asimov's Foundation novels. There is also a strong physical resemblance between Macklin and the young Asimov.
