Talk:Millennium Gate

Urrrm... has anyone noticed how similar the Millennium Gate looks to Farpoint Station? Zsingaya Talk 19:22, 8 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- Surely you mean that Farpoint Station looks like the Millennium Gate, since the Millennium Gate is older :-)
- Seriously though that makes perfect sense since Millennium Gate episode implies that the Gate design was the basis for the designs of Mars colonies, and such designs would be suitable for other planets as well. Personally I always thought they looked like the foundation of a Beanstalk. —MJBurrage(T•C) 14:23, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- interesting! 69.143.227.107 03:38, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Divergence
Am I right in thinking the Millennium Gate is the first instance of Star Trek's "history" diverging from our actual history? Meaning, the first time something was mentioned in the Star Trek Universe that did not really happen? Otherwise, what's been written/filmed of the ST Universe could still be one representation of our own future...
- Actually, no, this isn't the first case of divergence. The leader of the Anthracite strike of 1902 differs between our history and Trek history; according to "Assignment: Earth", the U.S. launched an orbital weapons platform in 1968, which of course never happened; then, of course, there's the Eugenics Wars in the 1990s. MJBurrage has been compiling a nice list of these differences at this page here, if you're interested in more. --From Andoria with Love 03:52, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- And let's not forget Starling and Chronowerx. 80.47.141.80 22:43, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- Chronowerx is in fact the key known difference between Trek's past and our Present. —MJBurrage(T•C) 14:23, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] The first arcology?
At least the mention of such a structure is a nice nod to Paolo Soleri's "arcology" concept]. Torlek 03:30, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
- One of Soleri's mentors was Frank Lloyd Wright, and the Millennium Gate's design seems to be a combination of Soleri's Arcology with Wrights earlier concept for The Illinois. —MJBurrage(T•C) 14:11, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
