I had changed the statement "At least it is according to the present day residents of the town who 'claimed' Kirk after Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home stated that he was born in Iowa." In 1985 a motion was passed by the town's council that it proclaim itself the future home of Kirk's birthplace. Gene Roddenberry gave his blessing to the idea, and designated the town as Kirk's official birthplace.
