Talk:Robert L. Comsol
From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference.
While I can appreciate the resourcefulness of the person who researched this issue, I think that entirely too much stock has been placed in the text of this "Eyes Only" report. In short, it appears to be an Okudagram of sorts. An ingenious bit of set decoration, perhaps, but not something that should be used as a canon resource. In the first place, I cannot imagine that anyone thought the text would be visible on screen. Secondly, although, the repeated references to the "half-Vulcan science officer" track Mendez' dialogue, it seems inappropriate to be printed (twice!) in the report. Finally, the name "Comsol" is simply too ridiculous to be believed. This designation is more likely a nod to the US Navy's chain of command in the early-to-mid 20th century. When I see the signature I can only think that famous naval figure Admiral Chester W. Cincpac -- GNDN 16:59, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- There's a difference between "silly text" and "too ridiculous to be believed" in my opinion. The names and terms seem fine, even if the way its written is gibberish. -- Captain M.K.B. 17:34, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Commander, Starfleet
I actually think this article is very good. The text should be considered canon since it appears on screen, unless contradicted otherwise. It is interesting to note that Comsol is listed as Commanding Officer, Starfleet Command; almost by definition, this would be identical to the mysterious Star Trek III position Commander, Starfleet noted on so many memory-alpha pages. This article may have shed some rare light on the command structure of Starfleet in the TOS era, or at least who held that position at that time. Federation 22:22, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
