[edit] Vori's interesting speech patterns?
Shouldn't there be something on the Vori's interesting vocabulary?
Here's my short list based on the first 10 minutes of the show:
- Nullify=kill
- Glimpse=look, eye
- Sphere=planet
- Walk
- Power=God, god
- Wayafter=afterlife
- Soonafter=
- Nemesis=enemy
- Trunks
- Clash=fighting
After figuring it to be overwhelming, I searched and found this list--it's pretty extensive. Any word on how it developed and why the writers chose to use this? Assuming they don't speak Standard/English/whatever it's called in those days, the Universal Translator would be translating for Chakotay--why wouldn't it just translate the words in their language into the more normal words we use? - I'm guessing their language was different and unique enough that the universal translator had a tough time translating it -- which I think is pretty neat and should happen more often! It kind of bugs me when aliens supposedly speaking through a translation device use colloquial "earth" expression as though they were natives... jp.

- It was somewhat similar to the Tamarian language, but was less complex.
- Some of the unusual language elements, for example "nullify" and particularly "nemesis" might be designed to help indoctrinate recruits, somewhat like Newspeak from George Orwell's famous book 1984.
The above was removed by LCARS for the following reasons:
- it's not similar to the Tamarian language at all; the Tamarian language is incomprehensible, whereas the Vori just use obscure synonyms for everyday concepts; removing speculative comment
