Tapan was a Vulcan symbol that denoted "process." Together with the symbols rata ("concept") and tafar ("discipline"), tapan completed a trinity of Vulcan symbols commonly displayed on clothing such as the robes Spock wore when he arrived on the refit USS Enterprise. (Star Trek: The Motion Picture)

Dr. Strom also wore a tunic that displayed all three symbols. (ENT: "Stigma")

A more poetic rendering of this trinity of concept, discipline, and process is "Branches entwined form the tree."

The costume used for Dr. Strom in ENT: "Stigma" that displayed rata, tapan, and tafar symbols was sold off on the It's A Wrap! sale and auction on eBay.[1]
