Taris

Taris was a Romulan Subcommander, and the commanding officer of the Romulan warbird Haakona in the 2360s. In 2365, her ship discovered the USS Enterprise in the Neutral Zone, when it was investigating the destruction of the USS Yamato which had suffered catastrophic systems failures after encountering an Iconian probe, leading to its destruction.

She ordered the Enterprise to leave the Neutral Zone and began to fire at the ship, which had been infected by the same probe that had destroyed the Yamato and was unable to raise its shields. However Taris' ship also became infected by the Iconian probe and the its weapons disarmed under its influence.

Picard landed on the Iconian outpost in order to destroy it, so no more ships would be destroyed. He stepped through a gateway and ended up on the Taris' malfunctioning ship. Taris believed that the Enterprise was responsible for the malfunctions it was suffering, and informed Picard that a self destruct sequence which she was unable to stop had begun. She stated that at least Picard would die with her. However by this time the Enterprise systems have been restored and Picard was beamed to safety. Geordi La Forge instructed her how she could protect her ship from the probe's effects. (TNG: "Contagion")
