Thalmus Rasulala (15 November 1939 – 9 October 1991; age 51) played the role of Captain Donald Varley in TNG: "Contagion". He played a main character on the second television reincarnation of Dragnet during its run from 1989 to 1990. He also played "Omoro," the father of Kunta Kinte, in the landmark 1977 miniseries "Roots" (with LeVar Burton, Ben Vereen, Madge Sinclair and John Schuck). Rasulala died of a heart attack in 1991.
