"The Dogs Themselves" was a science fiction story written by Albert Macklin. It was referenced in a blurb for the story "Third Foundation" on the cover of the August 1953 issue of Incredible Tales magazine. (DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars")

As an in-joke, this work's title is suspiciously similar to that of Isaac Asimov's award-winning novel The Gods Themselves.
