Tibetan plateau

From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference.

Jump to: navigation, search

The Tibetan plateau is a geologic feature on the planet Earth on the continent of Asia. The plateau is located on the northern side of the Himalayan mountain range, which features the point of greatest altitude on the planet, Zhumulangma or Everest. Beyond the plateau are deserts and the steppes of central Asia, while to the south of the Himilayas lies the sweltering subcontinent of India.

The plateau and the mountain range were formed when the tectonic plate on which sit India and Australia collided with the Eurasian plate millions of years ago.

In the holoprogram Julian Bashir, Secret Agent, Dr. Hippocrates Noah acquired precious jewels such as rubies from the hydrothermal deposits located in the Tibetan plateau. The deposits contain large amounts of chromium, which in turn accumulate on the rubies, giving away their original location. (DS9: "Our Man Bashir")
