USS Hermes (NCC-585)
From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference.
The USS Hermes (NCC-585) was a prototype for the Federation's Hermes-class scouts, which were in service during the mid-23rd century.
[edit] Background
This ship was never directly seen on screen, but it is mentioned by name and registry number in background dialog in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Its schematics (taken from Franz Joseph's Star Trek Star Fleet Technical Manual) appeared on the Enterprise computer displays in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.
The name is presumably a tribute to Hermes, the ancient Greek messenger-god although the name could be from the Royal Navy flagship HMS Hermes that led the British task force in the Falklands War in the late 20th century.
