USS Oberth

The USS Oberth (NCC-602) was a Federation starship in service during the late 23rd century and was the prototype of the Oberth-class.

In 2293, the Oberth was assigned to a deep-space exploration mission at the time of the proposal for Operation Retrieve. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

Named after Hermann Oberth, an Austrian with German ancestors, who was a physicist and space travel enthusiast and author of the book "Die Rakete zu den Planetenräumen" ("By Rocket into Planetary Space").
