The United Nations (abbreviated UN), was an international organization comprised of nearly all nation states on Earth in the 20th and 21st century.

In 1953, the UN held a meeting in London. (DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars")

The original organization was succeeded by the New United Nations in the first half of the 21st century. (TNG: "Encounter at Farpoint")

A second organization known as the UN existed in the early 22nd century and may have led to the formation of the United Earth government in 2150. This organization was responsible for registering civilian starships, such as the SS Mariposa in 2123. (TNG: "Up The Long Ladder")

The draft scripts for Star Trek: First Contact mention the demise of the original UN at the turn of the 21st century, even before the Third World War.
