As much as it pains me I have read very few Star Trek books that I thought were any good particularly the ones by Peter David I think he sucks. Sorry if that angers anyone.

As a veteran of the US Army I am interested in the military and naval rank structure utilized in Star Trek. However I wish (particularly in TOS , the original series films and DS9) they would have given a little more attention to detail and established some sort standardization of rank structure.
