[edit] Star Trek Episode Title Translations
In Finland (Surprise, Surprise, my home country) all TV programs are subtitled. Recently I bought a Star Trek Special edition of a local scifi-fantasy magazine “Portti” (The Gate). Included was a list of TOS and TNG episodes broadcasted in Finland, along with their translated episode names. Some of them (most) are nearly hilarious. Down below are my personal “reverse translations” for the Finnish titles in English. I’ve left out those with direct translations. Many of the translations here are quite sensible if you ksanow the context from the episode, but some are just incredibly silly. Enjoy!

[edit] Something to say about Star Trek:Nemesis
After watching the latest Trek movie I was often struck with an odd sense of familiarity. Why? After watching it a couple more times I realized that there were numerous similarities with other Trek movies in terms of plot devices and even some scenes. I quite enjoyed the movie, anyway, and don't want to bash it. These are simply some of my personal observations.
- Shinzon is quite surprisingly very similar with Rua'fo in "Insurrection". Both men were in need of something to restore their health (Shinzon needed Picard's DNA and Rua'fo wanted to collect the metaphasic particles from the Ba'ku planet's rings.) They both also had ships built for special purposes. Shinzon has the Thalaron emitter and Rua'fo had the collector ship.
- A cloaked vessel can fire while being cloaked. There was already one in "Undiscovered Country". Also, both ships were tracked down by using non-conventional means. (Enterprise'A's gas-sensing torpedo and Troi's telepathic abilites.)
- Picard goes "Rambo" to defeat the main villain. This has happened in all TNG movies. The largest similarity is with the end struggle of "Insurrection" where Picard is, incidentally, onboard a huge enemy ship that is about to kill a large number of people with a special weapon/device. Picard is also saved in the last possible moment by the transporter.
- A main character (Data) dies after saving the crew by conducting a suicide mission. Spock did the same in "The Wrath of Khan". Also, both characters had their memories stored into another being. (Still a bit unsure about B-4.)
- Picard and Data discuss the situation at hand and their personal problems at the Stellar Cartography.
- Troi crashes the ship.
- Desert planet. Not including "First Contact" and "Insurrection", all other Trek movie have had a planet with a desert environment. (In "Undiscovered Country" it was an ice planet, and "Final Frontier" even had two!)
- A dinner with the main villain. Picard dines with Shinzon and in "Undiscovered Country" the entire command crew
had a dinner with the Klingons.
- A major non-Federation power is in turmoil. Another similarity to "Undiscovered Country".
- Enterprise damaged by a surprise attack. Shinzon fires to the ship while cloaked and the Enterprise-D was nearly crippled when the Duras sisters bombed her with their shield-piercing torpedoes.
