JULY 21, 1951 – AUGUST 11, 2014

Thank you for the laughs, the tears and the memories,
for your love and generosity and for sharing your gifts with the world.
You will be loved and missed, always.

This page is dedicated to the memory of Patches (June 1, 1994 – October 7, 2010) and Del Joseph Trame a.k.a. British Naval Dude (April 6, 1973 – September 26, 2010)

The user known as Shran has been a member of Memory Alpha since June of 2005. His real name is Charles (born February 13). His username was chosen in honor of the Andorian character of the same name, played by Jeffrey Combs on Star Trek: Enterprise.

Born in Virginia, Charles has been a Star Trek fan since the early 1990s, beginning with Star Trek: The Next Generation, when he was living in Germany. He has since followed the franchise faithfully, having seen every episode of the original series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Enterprise, Voyager, and all of the Star Trek films.

Charles considered himself a die-hard "Trekker" (or Trekkie, whichever you consider to be the more obsessed of the two). He believed in the optimistic vision created by Gene Roddenberry, and was obsessed with creating explanations for apparent continuity errors to ensure the Star Trek timeline remains internally consistent. Most importantly, however, he enjoyed the good, high-quality entertainment which Trek usually offers. His love of Trek encompasses the 13 feature films and all of the television series (yes, even the animated series, though he does not consider it fully canon).

An alum of Christopher Newport University, where he majored first in Acting and Theater Studies, he participated in a number of theater productions in New York (off-off-Broadway) and Virginia but is now in the employ of a national pharmacy store chain. Outside of work, he does very little else with the exception surfing the net, watching movies and tweeting film and television news. Besides Star Trek, he is a huge fanatic of movies, and is what some would consider a "film encyclopedia," as he has a vast amount of trivia about all types of movies: the old, the new, and the yet-to-be-released.

Prior to creating an account on June 18th, 2005, Charles contributed numerous times to Memory Alpha. Pages he created as an anonymous user include Clara Sutter and Daniel Sutter. He also contributed to the pages for Jonathan Archer, United Federation of Planets, Klingon, Klingon Empire, and Isabella.

Charles had a less-than-auspicious start as a named member of Memory Alpha. Unfamiliar with the rules and policies of this wiki, he began by adding useless nonsense to a few articles and also blanked articles. However, he was quickly set straight by the likes of Alan del Beccio, and has since become a valued member of Memory Alpha – or so he likes to think. He also likes to think that he's become an expert on the Star Trek universe; however, he admits that he is always learning new, interesting details... but he wouldn't have it any other way.

Charles must have done something right, since he became an administrator on Memory Alpha. He was initially nominated for administatorship by Tim Thomason on September 24th and was formally "initiated" by Cid Highwind on November 4th.

On 15 August 2007, Charles became a volunteer writer for TrekMovie.com. Charles assisted the site's founder and operator, Anthony Pascale, with the writing and posting of news from sources outside of trekmovie.com. You can see his first news story, edited by Mr. Pascale, here. Charles wrote the site's CelebWatch column but began been contributing less frequently within a few years due to his busy schedule and factors related to the site. He no longer writes for the site, but would be willing to do so if asked.

Charles was the first person to suggest Chris Pine for the role of James T. Kirk in 2009's Star Trek. He brought Pine up as a possibility at TrekMovie.com (see message 104 here). Among the people who read TrekMovie.com is the film's co-writer, Roberto Orci. Less than three months later, Pine was signed to the role. Coincidence? Maybe... but you never know. ;)

This user's current MA rank is Lieutenant Commander.

The Pink Skin with a Blue Skin's Name[]

Shran does what he does because he loves you, just as he loves all of God's children. Yet, like a spoiled child, you lash out at him out of spite because you have been led astray. For that I say: shame on you, dear sir, shame on you! --Alan del Beccio to a vandal who apparently had a grudge against me for doing my job

Hello, all you happy people. This is Shran, not to be confused with the character Thy'lek Shran (played by Jeffrey Combs), for whom this account was named. However, feel free to call me Chuck (just don't call me blue skin, as that name has been specially reserved for my pal A.J.).

Outside of Star Trek (as explained in my nifty little intro above), my interests encompass all sorts of films and TV shows. I also have an eclectic taste in music and can pretty much stand all of it with the exception of "boy bands" and modern country. I'm practically obsessed with movie soundtracks. Like William Shatner, I love horses; like Jonathan Archer, I love dogs; and like Data, I love cats, and I own two of them (or perhaps I should say, they own me). I'm also an amateur story/screenwriter, though I've been doing far less of that in recent years. And that's pretty much all you need to know about me... in fact, that may have been too much. Heh, sorry!

At present, I own the following Star Trek DVDs and Blu-ray Discs:

Currently on Memory Alpha[]

This section is severely out of date. Believe none of it.

The majority of my work has been in expanding those articles for Trek actors and actresses. I take an extreme interest in what performers have done outside of Trek, and research as much as possible to point out their major works and all the appearances with other Trek performers I can find. For a list of currently unwritten performer pages, check out this page here, initially created by Tough Little Ship.

I'll also be working on the performers pages for each of the shows (with the exception of TAS) and will also be editing and creating pages for individual performers. So far I've done a lot of 'em, although only the biggest edits & additions will be listed in my "major contribution" list below. In addition, I am currently compiling and adding series credits for each individual season of each show. Thus far, I've added complete credits for DS9 seasons one through four, ENT Season 4, and VOY Season 2.

I will also be responsible for updating the "Latest News" section on the Main Page. In addition, I will take it upon myself to update the Star Trek when new information is released. I have already added numerous bits of information over the months and recently did an extensive overhaul to make it look more like an encyclopedia article rather than a report. It should be noted, however, that much of the information there is courtesy of TrekMovie.com, which is the best Star Trek news site out there, IMHO. Actually, it's not just an opinion... it's fact. Deal with it. ;)

My other duties on MA include deleting old IP user talk pages (a task shared with Alan and, sometimes, Jaz), deleting those pages and images voted for deletion here, here, here, and here (I also clean up those pages). I also help take care of those pages to be merged and I also update the wanted pages template. Naturally, I'm not the only one who does these things – this is a community effort after all – but they are among my own "personal duties", if you will.
