[edit] Featured Article Nomination: ENT: "Silent Enemy"
Hi Alan, I self-nominated my article on the Enterprise episode Silent Enemy about two weeks ago. You told me where to put down the nomination etc. Apart from a comment, no-one has voted at all. Do you know what is happening with it? Maybe no-one can see that it is down for nomination.
Just another quick note, about Categories. Sometimes it is hard to find a main categories page. Is there are chance there can be a quick link on the home page or something? It would help so much, saves time drifting through dozens of pages to find the main categories page. Thanks. :D Dave 02:35, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- All categories can be found at Special:Categories, which is, along with a bunch of other fun stuff, located in the "Special pages" link on the left in the "toolbox" (found underneath the "search" bar). Regarding the Silent Enemy page...not sure what to tell you. It's nomination is right at the top of the "recent changes" page, so it is (should be) quite visible. Usually in these types of cases, it's mostly a lack of interest, either because it wasn't an interesting episode and no one wants to read the page on it, or I'm really not sure what else. In retrospect of the "old days", MAs glory days of FAs have long since passed. --Alan 02:49, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Not an interesting episode?! Oh well, I assume it's because of the fact that Enterprise isn't really liked by that many people. Not to worry. Thanks anyway. Dave 03:06, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] New images
Hello, I'm Esllera and I seem to have a mental block about uploading images (you've fixed mine twice, thanks). My recent one was Kazon_neurotoxin.ring.jpg. Anyway, do I put all the information in the Summary section when I upload? And if I get the pictures from TrekCore, is that ok? I'm sorry if these questions are too basic... I appreciate your help.Esllera 21:19, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Esllera
- It's okay, and I'm sorry if I come across a little annoyed. It seems no matter how "simple" (in the "old time contributor's" mind) we try make the procedures for uploading new images, the more difficult it to get anyone to comply, especially when the upload page is doing everything short of reading itself to you about what to do. ;) Anyway, yes, you can just add all the info (wikified text, citation, and copyright tag -- the three biggies, imo) to the image upload page as if it were an actual *new* article edit. Regarding TrekCore, I'd offer the suggestion of don't ask, don't tell. Tehy are all owned by paramount, so who captures the image is pretty much irrelevant when it comes to what is contributed here. If it was a collage, or customized image, then that would be a different case. Otherwise, if you are unsure what goes in the image text info, just look at one of the images you uploaded that I corrected as a bit of a template. --Alan 21:27, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Thank you! :) And I truly do appreciate the simplicity, I'm just dense. If it weren't so easy, I could never contribute so I'm very grateful. Esllera 22:33, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Esllera
Ok, so I've looked at the ones you fixed for me and the ones I recently uploaded and I just don't see what I'm missing. You said they needed a citation - I thought that was the Paramount stuff? And the descriptive text, do you mean I should elaborate more on the text I already have? I put in a description, but it's very short... Thanks for your help.Esllera 04:31, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Esllera
I think I (finally) see what you mean. So I add the title of the episode it is from and put in more detailed info in the descriptor including internal links... Hope that's it! Thanks!Esllera 04:34, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Esllera
- Citation = episode image is taken from. Image name, for example Image:Rascals255.jpg could be named something that might describe without the need to viewing the image to know what it is, like "Image:Classroom computer terminal.jpg" or something. --Alan 04:45, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Warp Drive
Alan, please take a look at this when you get a chance. It relates to the uncited notes you removed from the warp drive page about a month ago. Thanks. - Bridge 12:37, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Bashir's favorite food
Hi, Alan, looks like you provided this detail, which now has an incite tag on it. Can you provide the citation? --TribbleFurSuit 01:30, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- It was cited. Everything from that sentence down to the next citation, which I appeared to have moved down, was all from the same episode. However, upon further review, it would seem that that line was removed between the script and what aired. --Alan 03:47, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Dominic Keating article
Just out of interest, why did you remove the wikilink delimiters around "England"? It's not as if it was a repeated link or anything. Avengah 02:23, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- Context. The article you are linking to is about a fictional country and its history in Star Trek. Yeah, it is England, but it isn't the real England. Dominic Keating wasn't born in a country that has an alternate history where we have events from 2152, he was born in the real world England. The proper in context link would be to Wikipedia, if it is even needed at all. --OuroborosCobra talk 02:33, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Images
Hey, Alan... um... what was the point of re-uploading the Justman images under different names? Also, aren't image names supposed to be in-universe? --From Andoria with Love 21:29, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- Trying to establish both consistency and simplicity. There isn't, nor have I really seen a need for establishing, a POV "rule" on image names. Otherwise, simplest naming makes the most sense in application, "Image:Justman, Suspicions.jpg" = "Image:Justman, Suspicions.jpg", or "Image:Campio.jpg" = "Image:Campio.jpg". --Alan 21:38, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough, just asking, thanks. :) --From Andoria with Love 21:47, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Comic Cover Cleanup
So... uploaded newer, better versions of every comic book cover image with a PNA... except Image:Homeworld annual comic.jpg. The only one I don't have and can't find a better version of. Alas. Otherwise, no more pna-imagecleanups on any comic book covers. Yay. -- Sulfur 11:01, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- Cool beans :) Finally one image category that looks competent. --Alan 22:18, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Copyright owners for the Klingon Book
Thanks for helping with the image. Any idea how to list the owners? The tag says "unknown" and I can't figure out to change it. Thanks. -FC 21:58, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks also for fixing the image template. I have seen you doing this, but I am just using the pre-existing template that comes up when one uploads an image. If there is extra material that needs to be added, that isnt in the template. If you can calrify, I will make sure it gets put in from now on. tks -FC 14:57, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Remastered Airing
It The way to eden airs tomorrow! SPOILERS!!! :) – Morder 20:34, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Cyberneticist
I noticed you expanded the cyberneticist article I created. Just wanted to say thanks. I was going to add that information shortly but looks like you beat me to it! Thanks :) -- TrekFan 00:19, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- yup--Alan
[edit] Chakotay - Lt. Com. or Com.?
I noticed you changed one of my articles, Karya, and listed Chakotay as Commander. Was he actually a Commander, because I'm sure he was Lieutenant Commander.... unless it was one of those continuity things that confused everyone! Dave 07:47, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Starfleet Merge
Howdy, I figured I'd approach you, as you started the merge suggestion for Starfleet (Earth) and Starfleet. There doesn't seem to be to much happening here, is there a way to get it to be more...noticed? To see what arguments, if any that other members might have? So far, counting your initial post, there's only three posts directly about the merge. On a side note, do you support the merge, or did you post it as there seemed to be a 'call' for it?--Terran Officer 06:13, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Image name changing
Here's the deal. I clicked "upload a new version of the file" and uploaded my new image. I changed the name form TpauENT to T'Pau Awakening (as per your previous suggestion, by the way). I didn't know that changing this name would result in the orphaning of the original file. So now I know.
Another thing. When something like this happens, please contact me and tell me to re-upload the image. The way you've done it (twice now) makes it look like you're the one who contributed the image and not me. I know this might sound a little selfish, but I screencapped the image, not you. --JemHadar359 03:57, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how one would assume that replacing an old image name with a new image name would not make the original file an orphan, but it is an occurance that occurs on here almost in excess. So regardless of who uploaded it, all contributions, images or otherwise fall under the Creative Commons License, so quite frankly it doesn't matter who uploaded it; what's important is that a better image exists. I simply did what was easiest for me to do with that moments time constraints. No blood, no foul. --Alan 19:56, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- Okay. No foul. Let's just hope that everything goes right in the future. --JemHadar359 20:36, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Formatting on image
Just so that you know, the reason the category ended up before the licensing on the Image:PADD stylus interface.jpg was because I added the licensing using the contextual drop down menu in the upload page, rather than adding the license template myself. That seems to add that licensing to the end of whatever you write for the summary, including after the categories. Possibly a bug we should talk to Cid about working out? --OuroborosCobra talk 23:06, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- I knew that. I tend to avoid it by not using the pull down menu option thing. Then it doesnt get that wikipedia-type subsectioning either. --Alan 23:11, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] UFP
Awesome work compiling and writing up all the references for the Reputation section.– Cleanse 00:56, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'm sure it could be honed and fluffed better, but I just wanted to get the information out there. I'm sure there are more, I'll look into that later. --Alan 03:35, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
