What they said, birthday wishes from Tellar, and stuff. The true test of a nerd is if they can make use of this recent "news". --Alan 22:42, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll be sure to include that in the next CelebWatch I write, whenenver that may be. As for MA, I don't think an actor's change in his personal views is really news; at least, it's not really something that qualifies for the "latest news" panel on the main page. Interesting catch, though, thanks again. :) --From Andoria with Love 00:10, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure. It would certainly come in handy. This may be something to bring up in a forum or to a Wikia developer. And thanks for the birthday wishes, by the way. :) --From Andoria with Love 18:59, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding removal of Malcolm Reed's weakness with sexy women

Hi user:Shran, I strongly disagree with your removal of my original paragraph regarding Reed's weakness with women, here are my arguments:

1. Perhaps it should not be in the "relationships" section, as such an attribute is not EXACTLY a "relationship", but one could argue that this attribute of him obviously will affect his relationship with other women (for example, in a cutscene from Broken Bow, Reed jokes with Hoshi, with a sense of flirtation in his eyes). If NOT in the "relationships" section, perhaps it should be in some other section such as "personalities"?

2. I've read the entire article, unless I'm missing something, there's ABSOLUTELY NO MENTION of this weakness/attribute of Reeds, that he is easily enticed by sexy women (regardless of their species).

Please get back to me regarding these ideas. Perhaps we can work together somehow and make this key information into the article. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ubcphysicsyangbo (talk • contribs) .

Hi, Ubcphysicsyangbo. I replied to your concerns at Talk:Malcolm Reed. Please continue this discussion there. Thank you. :) --From Andoria with Love 20:11, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Hello

Hello, I'm Alientraveller, I haven't done much editing on Memory Alpha, but I have done a lot of work for the Wikipedia article on the new film. I was curious if I could create userpages for myself and others to edit for in-universe content from the film based on the 25 minutes that have been screened across the world, and put these on to the main space on May 8 per the spoiler policy. – Alientraveller 22:52, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. Just to make sure I understand you correctly, you want to create subpages of your user pages containing information from the film, correct? If so, that should be okay. My only real concern is that I'm not sure how fair it would be to those who have not seen the footage and who may want to add information themselves once they see the film. Beyond that, I see no reason you can't do you're suggesting. :) --From Andoria with Love 03:42, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
Hi guys. I was made aware of this discussion by Alan, and after some discussion, I think it would be unwise to do this. We disallow spoiler information to be put on this site for a reason - some people (including members of the editing community) don't want to be spoiled, and it is hard to avoid being spoiled if the information is already spread to all articles it would belong.
Restricting it to just one article might work, but I'm not sure about even that - there are edit summaries, possible redlinks, and people who haven't read our spoiler policy and just add more after they've found some information. Also, if we allow information in one article, this article might as well be Star Trek (film) itself, which spoiler-aware people like me already avoid like hell.
So, what it comes down to in my opinion - let's better not go there. -- Cid Highwind 16:31, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
Well, I was thinking since they will be user subpages, people who don't want to be spoiled could simply avoid them as they do the film page. Also, I was assuming Alientraveller would add spoiler templates to the top of the articles. That said, you're probably right, it's best to just leave such information off the site until the movie opens. The film page itself doesn't contain that much plot information, just some info on the characters that are in the movie. I try not to add info on what the characters actually do in the movie, though. So, to Alientraveller, as Cid said, it's probably best not to add that info to the site at all until the movie comes out. Sorry. :( --From Andoria with Love 18:10, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
Another problem would be that there would be nothing to stop multiple people from writing their own versions of articles. Which one would then have the honor of becoming the actual article on the "big day?" Who would decide that and on what criteria? At least with regular articles, it truly becomes a collaborative project where everything has to be in one place. --OuroborosCobra talk 19:57, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
I never thought about that. Shame on me. See, this is why I should have gone with my first instinct and tell Alientraveller to bring it up in a forum. Sorry about all this, guys. --From Andoria with Love 20:51, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
BAD Shran! That's NO! :P -- Renegade54 16:16, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Countdown information to Apocryphya doesn't count right because it's not from the film? Alientraveller 17:24, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Newest Trailer for Star Trek Movie

Hey, shouldn't it say "The trailer is currently playing before most screenings of the film Watchmen"? In front of doesnt sound right I'd say :) Anyway, I couldn't do the change 'cause the page is locked for some reason. By the way, good to know about Arclight and the art-display. I think it will play at the Dome there and the website is showing the running time as 140 mins actually. ...– Distantlycharmed 03:49, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

I fixed the wording. As for the website, their information is incorrect. Paramount has already contacted Arclight, but I guess they haven't updated the site yet. --From Andoria with Love 05:16, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
So, I was at the Arclight tonight for Watchmen and I saw the three models of the USS Enterprise that were cast from 3D digital models created for the film by ILM. One of them was in neon and the other one had the UPS logo on it and was in all UPS colors and said "Synchronizing the Galaxy of commerce" on it, which was pretty cool. I dont know if i should put that info up but i thought it was something interesting to share. No trailer by the way...Peace. – Distantlycharmed 08:41, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
I don't think it needs to be added to the article, since it's not really relevant to the movie itself. Thanks for sharing, though. I did see the pictures of the models, but I'd love to be able to check them out in person. And there was no Star Trek trailer in my screening of Watchmen, either. I had to watch the trailer when I got home. Woulda loved to see it on the big screen, though. --From Andoria with Love 09:09, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Please Verify

Your expertise is recquired: http://memory-alpha.org/en/index.php?title=Star_Trek_%28film%29&curid=103532&diff=938776&oldid=938706Vince47 01:44, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey, Vince. Thanks for pointing this out. The information appears to be inaccurate. The preview that aired with Heroes was the third trailer as already seen online and in theaters. Apparently, though, an announcer was added, and the announcer said "Star Trek - The Future" or "Star Trek - The Future Begins," referring to the movie, but that is not the title of the movie. There has been no title change, fortunately. :) --From Andoria with Love 02:20, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Wiki Coding?

Do you know much about the codes and what not for wiki software (such as Memory Alpha). I have been looking around, and haven't been able to find an answer to how Memory Alpha does the columns side by side on the main page, such as it is. I have seen the code on the main page, but it just doesn't want to work on my personal wikia. It's the latest version, in case you need to know. Any thoughts on this? Thanks for any attention you can give this in advance.--Terran Officer 20:00, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey, Terran Officer. The Main Page is comprised of individual templates called "panels", a list of which you can find here. In order to get them working on your page, you will need to create each panel. To work them as colored panels, you will need a template like this one. Then you just add their codes to the Main Page, defining the colors you want to use. For example {{Colored Panel|Browse|#331818|#666}} should give you the reddish "browse Memory Alpha" panel you see on the Main Page. Now, I'm not a really knowledgeable on coding, so if this doesn't work, you may want to ask someone like bp0 what's wrong. But it should work. Hope this helps! :) --From Andoria with Love 22:09, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Countdown TPB

Shran, the source for it being released this week is here. Diamond should confirm on Monday. -- Michael Warren | Talk 13:48, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Ahh, I see. I was going by the date at Amazon.com. It seems odd, though, that the trade paperback collecting all four issues would be published a week before the fourth issue is even released. --From Andoria with Love 14:30, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] JJ Abrams Interview

Hi Shran. Congrats on getting nominated to select the best questions for the JJ Abrams interview. So here are the next steps: I'll create the question submission page and have it posted to Memory Alpha by Wednesday (Thursday at the latest). I'd like to accept questions from Thursday April 9 - Sunday April 19th. On Monday the 20th, you and Jorg can pick your favorites and we'll compile them on a separate talk page. Once we pick the questions, I'll shoot 'em out to JJ's camp! Lemme know if you have any questions. Thanks - -- Karim@Wikia (talk) 00:06, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

  • Hello again, I wanted to let you know that i'll be posting the submission page tomorrow and will ping you when i have it up. Once we open the doors for question submissions, it would be sweet if the event was promoted on the main page of MA. Feel free to contact me if you need help with anything or if you have questions. This should be a lot of fun :)

-- Karim@Wikia (talk) 00:46, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

  • OK, so I've posted the submission page: Memory_Alpha:Ask_J.J._Abrams. Lemme know if you have any feedback on it. If its in good shape, can you announce in the forum and promote on the home page? Thanks! -- Karim@Wikia (talk) 18:24, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
I checked it out and made some wording fixes. Looks good! As for promoting it on the home page, I'll need to discuss with my MA pals where the best place for it would be. The main page is already way too long, IMO. I'll see what we can do. Thanks! :) --From Andoria with Love 22:29, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Hey Shran, could you take a look at the answers and mention them on the front page or something similar. Must - sleep - now ;-) --Jörg 22:13, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
If you've got a sec, please join the IRC chatroom. --Jörg 22:27, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Hi Shran, would it be possible to promote the interview by writing a blurb at the top of the MA site notice? It would be great if we could notify the entire community that the interview's up (also any help on trekmovie.com would be much appreciated). Posting it on the homepage somewhere could be very helpful as well. Lemme know if there's any way I can help. Thanks again!-- Karim@Wikia (talk) 01:12, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
I've added the blurb on the sitenotice. I contacted Anthony at TrekMovie.com yesterday, but he has not yet replied, nor did he put the story in yesterday's tidbits. Hopefully, it'll be in the next tidbits article. --From Andoria with Love 01:28, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Invitiation to join service record game

Hey, how are you doing. I would like to invite you to take a look at a new internet game I designed. If you wuld like to play it, you can send an e-mail to stsrs@live.com. It requires as much or as little participation as you want and the records generated by the game are regularly e-mailed and can be burned to a CD when/if a character retires. I think you will truely enjoy it and I am looking for live action player. Thank you! -FC 17:55, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] STXI Canon Policy Query

I was wondering: since, according to BBC World Service, ST XI has premiered in Australia. So why is it still non-canon on MA? Officially, it has been premiered. – Crimsondawn hears you... 14:08, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Ryan Church

I suspect that the anon that edited Ryan Church may have been Church himself... whatcha think? -- Renegade54 20:29, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Since his official site states Church is working on Transformers 2, probably not. :) --From Andoria with Love 20:30, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Actually, it's possible. Maybe he removed the Transformers 2 line by mistake, since it said that's what he was currently working on and it wasn't correct. --From Andoria with Love 20:32, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Shran

I'm sorry about the whole Narada thing, actually intended for those words to be heard by someone else on a forum that i currently post on, and i mistakenly pasted the content of my last forum post before the name Shran, i always forget that i still have that old copy and paste, and i intended to insert a different name, citing a particularly nasty troll, who i happen to believe hasn't even seen the movie, and happens disagrees with the whole forum on his editing of our what we call a ship database, so sorry about this whole thing, it's all a misunderstanding as i don't disagree with you, and i have also seen the movie, in fact i might be seeing it again today, but i have not seen it as much as you, so you're probably more qualified to edit the Narada page, i just wanted to add a little something :). I really should be using my wiki account, now shouldn't i? I would also like to thank you for the work you've put into memory alpha :).

[edit] Trinidad and Tobago ST IX Release Date

Well, you were correct: it was released on May 8th, same as the US and Latin America. But, as usual, Trinidad gets it first, THEN Tobago. *frown* I'll see it this weekend. You may be wondering how come I've dealt with so much of the material even though I have not yet seen the film. I am one of the few people who do not mind spoilers, as they show me what to expect and whether or not it is worth me paying money. This is only to a point, though; I've taken great care not to read the plot summary in detail because I don't want to know the WHOLE thing, just a basic outline. :) – Crimsondawn hears you... 11:45, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Code names

Hey Shran. I've just seen your comment on this. Code name, you think that these names were code names during the production? So far I've understood these names were their names. I've just created Dexter because of this. Maybe you could reach out your antennae and try to find out what is true.... ;) – Tom 23:17, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Problems

So in other words you didn't even read my explenation why Romulus was not destroyed in the prime time line. This has nothing to do with my liking or disliking of Romulus. It is simple reasoning when concidering the impacts of time travel and what was presented in the movie. If memory alpha is determined to show incorrect facts, I will stop editing, but you should read my explenation. It is undeniable that Romulus was not destroyed in the prime timeline because it's destruction caused Nero to come back in time and alter the timeline. If the prime timeline is concidered to remain untouched and intact by the actions of Nero, then he must not have come back in time within the prime timeline, and therefore Romulus must still be intact. It's simple reasoning, not very hard. --12.10.17.2 22:06, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Wow, you still fail to understand what happened in the movie. Altering the timeline, aka the destruction of Romulus in the old timeline, is what created a new timeline. What's so hard to understand about that? 22:09, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Anon, you don't get it. We all read your explanation, but it is simply not correct. That's not our opinion, but what the writers stated. If you don't believe what they said about their own movie, go ahead, but we do. --31dot 22:10, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Not to mention, your own explanation makes no sense. You say Nero's actions have no effect on the prime timeline, yet use that to argue an effect on the prime timeline. If Nero's actions did not effect the prime timeline, than it did not save Romulus in it. That would be effecting the prime timeline. --OuroborosCobra talk 23:24, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] USS Kelvin Background Issue

I noticed you disagreed with me on the USS Kelvin background. The problem I had with it was that I did not feel that Orci had fully sanctioned the specific theory that was stated. Rather, he said: "Any explanation that works within the confines of Nero traveling back in time would do." Most of theory was cooked up by someone else who was just asking Orci what his thoughts on it were. The other issue I had was that Orci himself seemed to be just thinking out loud when he posted his comment and I've always been under the impression that the background section was strictly for production information.--Hribar 01:43, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey, Hribar. If the information comes from someone who worked on the production, then it is considered production information. However, you are correct, the wording does make it seem like he's saying, "Hey, how about this?", rather than giving an official explanation. Perhaps the note can be reworded so that there's no doubt that it's a suggestion from the writer and not an official explanation? Anyway, if you feel strongly against it, feel free to remove the note again, but if you do, I would suggest taking the concerns you pointed out above and bring them up on the talk page to see what others think. --From Andoria with Love 02:21, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Countdown as an Animated Prequel?

Do you know if Paramount is planning to have Countdown turned into an animated prequel? I have seen rumors on websites. Not only would it be an excellent DVD extra, but the story does provide badly-needed background to Nero. Plus which that would also make it canon and thus solve the problem of the Hobus article... :) – Crimsondawn hears you... 04:54, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

I haven't heard any such rumors. I highly doubt they will be adapting the comic into anything canon, though. --From Andoria with Love 05:43, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Birthright removal

Why did you remove my fact on the Birthright page? No citation? Anyone who was paying attention to the episode would have seen the production staff member with the R/C controller in his hands. What's going on?

I am not Shran, but I can say that it was a nitpick, which is not allowed per policy.--31dot 19:03, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Ahh thank you, and I found the discussion on the "Talk" page of the episode. However, something so glaring of a mistake should be on the main page, which was my intention.--Italianajt

Dear sir, I placed an edit in the Production heading of "Spock's Brain" regarding the cast walking in front of a MOVING starfield, and how the shots of the viewscreen were episode-specific. My edit was removed and I was told that Kirk and Spock also walked in front of a MOVING starfield in "The Doomsday Machine. In the ORIGINAL version, at the end of the episode they walked in front of a NON-MOVING starfield background which did not even include the planet killer on screen. Please watch BOTH ORIGINAL EPISODES and you will see I am right...the viewsreen shots in "Spock's Brain" are not the standard stock angles, but were shot SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT EPISODE. Please replace my comments when you have confirmed my facts. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Boltmancraft (talk • contribs) .

Referring to this edit, you are correct that in "The Doomsday Machine" was a static (painted) screen. — Morder 10:38, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Syntax Editors

Is there anyone that you know of who goes through and corrects common syntax errors in the articles? I think that would be very beneficial if this is to be considered the true MA. --Italianajt 12:32, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

What kind of syntax errors do you mean? Grammar? Wiki format problems? There are several of us that do it... -- sulfur 13:04, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Grammar errors mostly, I'm sure anyone can go across and correct problems of that sort.--Italianajt 13:24, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

There are a few of us who do that. Of course, with 30000+ articles, some of the grammatical errors languish. -- sulfur 14:27, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Borg Queen

On the borg queen page my edits were undone because they were "speculation and point of view". In the first paragraph, the article even says many of the facts of her origin are speculation and theory. My argument was based on facts, because in First contact, she says she "is the collective", also unlike other borg who have served as representatives like Locutus and 7 of 9, she used the term I and said she "was" the borg not "of" borg, like the other two. Also, she never deliniates herself as being a representative. So how is my argument speculation, when I'm just stating the facts? Largoss21 16:55, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

New comments at the bottom. Simply put you may be basing your opinions on facts but they're still opinions. "This can be construed as refuting the theory of her being a representative of the borg." This is your thoughts and not fact. I could probably take the same reasoning and come up with a different theory as to what she is. Then we'd have two theories on the page, or more and then everyone would want to post their ideas based on these "facts". Simply put you can't put opinions on this site. 19:55, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] The Fuss

You're right in that it isn't a big deal whether the new Enterprise is canonically listed as a Constitution or not. But since so many people have an issue with the production figures regarding the length, it would be inconsistent at best, hypocritical at worst to allow those same sources to be used as confirmation of the class without accepting the length figures. That's my perspective, at any rate.Dangerdan97 18:05, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

True. But as far as Enterprise type (alternate reality) goes, the canon policy does allow us to use production sources when naming articles. So that page could be at "Constitution class (alternate reality)" and could thus be listed in the Enterprise article. I actually would have waited for direct confirmation before creating the alternate Constitution class page, but that's just me. I'm currently trying to see if I can get a picture of the alternate Enterprise's dedication plaque, which will hopefully confirm whether or not its a Connie. --From Andoria with Love 19:02, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
I think we are stretching "production resource" when we are using things like "Intel's promotional website," Shran. In fact, until this movie came out, I'd never seen "production resource" stretched nearly as far as it has been now. --OuroborosCobra talk 19:10, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Er, it's not Intel's site, it's from the dossiers on the official site of the movie, which the writers help put together. The dossier of the Enterprise states it's a Constitution class. --From Andoria with Love 19:37, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Which is still well beyond the scope of what we have ever used as a "production resource" in the past, and should be rediscussed on the canon policy before using it all over the place. We haven't used Ron Moore's interviews to name articles, in fact we've generally only used the scripts. Not just any old note lying around that a writer happened to put a pen too. If they didn't bother putting it in the movie, or even intend it to be in the movie (as indicated by actually being in the script, not by being in a novel, comic, website, or scrap of paper written while at a bar), why are we allowing for months after the fact post script editing and writing by the authors? If that is the standard, why are we not counting anything and everything from the comics or fifty million novels as canon if they are written by the authors? We've generally used scripts, and maybe a background note from an interview or a "Companion" or something. Not the mass "use everything" that has been occurring since the movie came out. --OuroborosCobra talk 19:53, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
