Vision quest

A vision quest is an experience used by Native Americans as a rite of passage. In the 24th century Indians used Akoonahs for vision quests.(VOY: "The Cloud") Indians also use vision quests when they need to make hard decisions.(VOY: "Basics, Part I")

In 2370 on Dorvan V, Wesley Crusher experienced a vision quest about his own life and saw his father in his vision. Lakanta previously told him, that he saw Wesley in one of his vision quests he hold in the habak on Dorvan V. (TNG: "Journey's End")

When Seska told Chakotay that Culluh was going to kill there child Chakotay used a vision quest to talk to his father to decide whether to risk the ship to save his son or not.

When Seven of Nine brought Neelix back from the dead in 2374, Chakotay helped him go through a vision quest. Neelix saw his sister Alixia, who told him that he should be dead. (VOY: "Mortal Coil")
