The term waste controller is a Malon title for an individual, in the field of waste management, who serves aboard waste export vessels in a position equivalent to that of a captain.

Some controllers, such as Fesek worked only part time as controllers, and usually spent only half a year doing this duty, pursuing their hobbies or performing other jobs for the rest of the year. Other known waste controllers were Emck and Vrelk. (VOY: "Night", "Extreme Risk", "Juggernaut")
