Wide-band subspace
From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference.
Wide-band subspace is a type of subspace signal used to communicate when one's hails have been ignored or visual contact is not possible. It is a band generally received by most starships.
In 2370, Captain Kathryn Janeway used a wide-band subspace signal to communicate with the Pralor Automated Personnel Units, which had abducted B'Elanna Torres and refused to acknowledge hail requests. (VOY: "Prototype")
