Cassidy began performing stunts in films at the age of 7, beginning with the 1991 science fiction thriller Eve of Destruction, a film which featured future Star Trek: Voyager star Tim Russ. Cassidy went on to perform stunts in such films as Problem Child 2 (1991), Silent Fall (1994), Holes (2003), American Wedding (2003, The Bad News Bears (2005), and The Benchwarmers (2006).
As an actor, Cassidy made his debut in Robert Altman's 1993 film Short Cuts. Also a part of that film's cast were fellow Star Trek guest actors Bruce Davison (who played Cassidy's father in the film), Robert DoQui, and the late Charles Rocket.
