Les Megarites sont une espèce humanoïde rencontrée par la Fédération.

Les Megarites furent créés par Fred Phillips et Robert Fletcher pour le premier film.

Dans une interview de mars 1980 dans "Fantastic Films", Fletcher révéla des informations sur l'espèce et le design de leurs costumes :

"These are the Megarites. I call them the jade people because their planet has jade in such abundance that they make everything out of it. That even includes their houses. The bracelets are cast of plastic and made to look like graphite steel. They also have a great deal of graphite steel on their planet so they wear a great many ornaments made out of this material too. The jade plaque on his collar (not shown here) was made of a felt and resin combination. Notice the hood. The hood of the costume was is lined with a sheet of foam rubber to give added body to the costume and to create a more sculpted look. The hood then fits directly onto the collar. The particular costume is made of an indigo blue wool. The loose folds and the very rounded head help give a very otherworldly look to the creature."

D'autres informations proviennent des notes de Phillips et Fletcher reproduites dans "Star Trek: The Magazine" (Volume 2, Issue 9) de janvier 2002. Cette source indique que les Megarites sont membres de la Fédération. Dans leur environnement naturel, les Megarites vivent sous l'eau, mais la Fédération développa un système d'injections leur permettant de survivre à la surface durant environ une semaine. La plus grande partie de leur planète est constituée de jade.

En 1980, Mego lança une figurine Megarite à 3 3/4". [1]

Bien qu'il ne constitue pas une source canon, Memory Alpha a admis ce nom comme ressource valide.
