In 2367, the Merrimac was on special assignment with the Vulcan Science Academy. (TNG: "Brothers")
It later served in Captain Picard's task force to blockade the Klingon-Romulan border during the Klingon Civil War in 2368. [edit] Background
- The class and registry were derived from an okudagram displayed in the observation lounge starting around TNG Season 4. This information appeared on the Starship Mission Status screen.
- Star Trek: Voyager's initial character bible for Chakotay suggests that he served on the USS Merrimac early in his career.
- According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia, "this ship was named in honor of the first iron-clad warship, which fought for the Confederate Army against the warship Monitor in the American Civil War." By that time, however, the ship had been rechristened CSS Virginia.
