Evolution

Show me canon evidence for somebody in any series or movie saying "I don't believe in evolution" and it can be added to the Human or Religion article. --Jörg 18:44, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Indeed. While the presence of religion can be cited, I cannot think of a reference to creationism over evolution, or anything over evolution. On the other hand, I can think of many references to a belief in evolution. In addition, being religious does NOT mean one is anti-evolution. In Germany today, for example, IIRC a vast majority of the population believe in evolution (and in fact find Americans silly for not believing in it), yet is one of the most deeply religious nations of Europe, so much to the point that they wanted references to Christianity placed in the European Constitution. Let's not forget the Picard was taken back in time to the beginning of the life on Earth, and saw the first single celled organisim on Earth which Q stated would EVOLVE into all other life on Earth ("All Good Things..."). As well as a CANON statement from Spock saying that "on Earth, all life evolved from the lower levels to its present form" or words to that effect ("Let That Be Your Last Battlefield"). Noone is insulting your beliefs, only that this site is about Star Trek canon and with the canon we must stay. -FleetCaptain 20:28, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

You are dangerously close to being considered as a vandal to the Earth article as you have reverted three times to your unsupported views after three users have told you it is not the policy of Memory Alpha. I've asked administrators to become involved. Please also review Memory Alpha:Canon policy which is why so many people are against you on this. I temporarily protected the article Earth from any further edits. This protection will be lifted automatically 24 hours from now. If it is, please do not add the same paragraph that has already been removed by three different editors (for valid reasons). This would be considered "vandalism", which might lead to you being blocked from editing for a while.

Regarding your edits - yes, some people in the 24th century are religious (or, at least, still follow some christian traditions). That does not mean that they believe in everything that some religious person today might believe in - and it surely doesn't mean that such (at best) circumstantial evidence should be the basis of any information here. The information "evolution is a myth" has no place on this website, unless some Star Trek character explicitly stated this. -- Cid Highwind 22:10, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

As has already been stated, just because some of the Trek characters have been shown as being religious, it doesn't mean that all religious beliefs that exist now need to be explicitly stated on some article here. Regarding evolution, this has been shown as a scientific fact in many episodes.

As an aside, it would be nice if we could restrict this discussion to one place, either here on your user talk page or on Talk:Earth. -- Cid Highwind 23:06, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Okay.. this is just silly. There are obviously religious people in Star Trek. But it is just completely ridiculous to use that as an argument against evolution. I'm not even going to bother arguing it more than that. You are being silly. -- Harry ^talk 11:57, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Talk Pages

I am re-iterating this again, as your continued editing of user pages after being told to stop is a clear violation of policy, and IS considered vandalism rather than a disagreement. --OuroborosCobra ^talk 22:07, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Please also be aware that moving around talk page comments, as you did on Talk:Earth, in particular putting your signature behind statements made by other people, is tantamount to talk page vandalism as it gives the impression that you are trying to mislead readers into thinking that you started the discussion and made statements which were in fact posted by other users. I don't for a minute believe you did that on purpose, just please don't do it again. -FleetCaptain 12:27, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

When you sign a talk-page-message, please use ~~~~. That way, both your signature (that you choose in your preferences) and a time stamp will be auto generated. that way it is easier to see when a message was posted.
