The aorta was the main artery of the humanoid body, originating from the left ventricle of the heart and extending down to the abdomen where it was known as the abdominal aorta. It could suffer from aortic rupture.
In 2369, in "Takaran Anatomy" for Doctor Jo'Bril, the aorta was listed under lateral sternal in the graphic. (TNG: "Suspicions")
Around 2372, Joseph Sisko had an artificial aorta fitted. (DS9: "Homefront")
