A cease fire or truce was an official halt of hostilities during a time of war or other types of conflict, but not yet a final peace treaty.

In the alternate version of World War II that occurred as a result of the Temporal War, a 1944 newspaper reported on truce talks. (ENT: "Storm Front")

During a firefight between a landing party from Enterprise NX-01 and a commando from the Andorian Imperial Guard, a cease fire was established when the secret Vulcan listening post in the catacombs was discovered. (ENT: "The Andorian Incident")

In 2152, Andorian commander Thy'lek Shran requested the presence of Enterprise Captain Jonathan Archer to negotiate a cease fire between the Andorians and the Vulcans on the planet known as both Paan Mokar and Weytahn. (ENT: "Cease Fire")

In 2233 of the alternate reality, Ayel requested the USS Kelvin's Captain, Richard Robau to come aboard the Narada to negotiate a cease fire with his commander, Captain Nero. (Star Trek)

In 2256, Starfleet Admiral Brett Anderson of the USS Europa then proposed a cease fire during the Battle of the Binary Stars to the Sarcophagus' commander, T'Kuvma and other Klingon forces. T'Kuvma accepted the cease fire, but used it as opportunity to demonstrate his cleave ship's cloaking device abilities by attacking the Europa. (DIS: "Battle at the Binary Stars")

In a "bonus scene" deleted from "Will You Take My Hand?" it was revealed that the Klingon Empire and the Federation had agreed to a cease fire to end the war in 2257.

At one point while serving on the USS Stargazer, Captain Jean-Luc Picard was sent to make preliminary gestures to a truce between the Cardassian Union and the United Federation of Planets. He lowered the vessel's shields as a gesture of goodwill, but the Cardassians were unimpressed and Picard was forced to flee at warp speed, the Cardassians having taken out the ship's weapons systems and impulse drive. In 2365, a cease fire was called on Solais V prior to Riva's peace mission there, but when he arrived aboard the USS Enterprise-D the ship detected localized, but intense fighting. Riva then convinced the Solari to respect the cease fire. (TNG: "Loud As A Whisper")

In 2369, Benjamin Sisko, Kira Nerys, and Kai Opaka attempted to get the Ennis and the Nol-Ennis to call a cease fire, although the two groups had been fighting for so long neither took it seriously. (DS9: "Battle Lines")

The same year, the Rekag and Seronians brokered a cease fire on Rekag-Seronia in anticipation of Ves Alkar's visit. It temporarily broke down when a Rekag shuttle was destroyed in Seronian airspace, but later appeared to be holding. (TNG: "Man Of The People")

After General Martok was revealed to be a Founder in 2373, Chancellor Gowron ordered a temporary cease fire in hostilities between the Klingon Empire and the Federation. (DS9: "Apocalypse Rising")

Several weeks later, the cease fire was broken when Klingon troops invaded the Federation planet Ajilon Prime. Many people were killed during the period before the ceasefire was reinstated. The USS Farragut was destroyed near the Lembatta Cluster during the period. (DS9: "Nor the Battle to the Strong")

In a 2374 holoprogram set in 1944 France, Captain Miller ordered his American forces to call a cease fire in and around Sainte Claire. Following these events, Captain Janeway was then able to negotiate a cease fire between Voyager and the Hirogen on stardate 51762. (VOY: "The Killing Game, Part II", "The Voyager Conspiracy")

In 2375, Captain Janeway negotiated a cease fire with Species 8472 at their Terrasphere 8. (VOY: "In the Flesh")

In 2381, Captain Carol Freeman of the USS Cerritos was sent to Pakled Planet in order secure a cease fire to stop the Pakleds from continuing from attacking Federation trading routes. The Pakleds attempting to use this as a ruse to sneak their spy Rumdar on board the Cerritos to discover the ship schematics by pretending to be an asylum seeker. His ruse is easily discovered and Freeman uses it to discover a plot to deliver a Varuvian bomb to Earth. (LD: "The Spy Humongous")
