Darlene Artell Hartman, also known by her pen name Simon Lang, (born 23 December 1934; age 89) in Melville, Louisiana) is a formerly New Orleans-based (now Texas-based) science fiction writer, who pitched the undeveloped episode "Shol" for the second season of Star Trek: The Original Series.

Around the same time Roddenberry and Hartman began to develop an idea for a spin-off series entitled Hopeship, chronicling the adventures of a Federation hospital vessel. Although both ideas were scrapped, Hartman eventually wrote the "Einai" series of novels, which are heavily influenced by Star Trek. (These Are the Voyages: TOS Season Two)
