David Oliver (31 January 196212 November 1992; age 30) was an actor who portrayed the holographic young man in the Star Trek: The Next Generation fifth season episode "Cost Of Living". He filmed his scenes for this episode on Wednesday 12 February 1992 and Thursday 13 February 1992 on Paramount Stage 16.

Oliver was born in Concord, California and started his career in the early 1980s with guest roles in episodes of Tucker's Witch (1982, with Catherine Hicks and Alfre Woodard), Go (1983), Another World (1983-1985), and Lady Blue (1985). He had a supporting role in Fred Dekker's horror comedy Night of the Creeps (1986, with Earl Ellis, Todd Bryant, and Dick Miller), a guest part in 21 Jump Street (1987), appeared in the television comedy If It's Tuesday, It Still Must Be Belgium (1987), and portrayed Sam Gardner in the television mini series A Year in the Life (1986) and its following television series A Year in the Life (1987-1988), on which he worked with Richard Kiley, Karen Landry, Diana Muldaur, and Jay Underwood.

Further work includes the thriller Deadly Intent (1988, with Fred Williamson, Persis Khambatta, Clayton Rohner, and Noél De Souza), the leading role in the action film Defense Play (1988, with Monte Markham, William Frankfather, J. Downing, Glenn Morshower, and Jim Beaver), the horror film The Horror Show (1989, with Aron Eisenberg, Lawrence Tierney, John Nowak, and Kane Hodder), an episode of Murder, She Wrote (1990, with Cliff Potts), and the drama Edward II (1991).

Following his appearance on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Oliver had supporting parts in the science fiction film Shadowchaser (1992, with Meg Foster) and in the television adventure Miracle in the Wilderness (1992, with Kim Cattrall, Sheldon Peters Wolfchild, and Rick Sawaya).

Oliver died in 1992 in Los Angeles as result of complications from AIDS, only seven months after "Cost of Living" first aired.
