Tiny Ron (21 November 1947 – 29 November 2019; age 72) was the actor known for his role as Maihar'du in seven episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He also played the Alpha-Hirogen Idrin in the Star Trek: Voyager fourth season episodes "Message in a Bottle" and "Hunters".
Ron was not part of the primary filming of "Message in a Bottle" but filmed his scenes on 2nd unit on Friday 24 October 1997 on Paramount Stage 9. He previously had a "Show & Tell" meeting in full makeup and wardrobe on Wednesday 15 October 1997 during the production of the episode "Waking Moments". For the episode "Hunters", Ron filmed his scenes on Tuesday 28 October 1997 on Paramount Stage 16.
Born as Ronald Taylor, he changed his artistic name when applying for the Screen Actors Guild because it was already taken by Ron Taylor. The name was intended to be ironic, considering he was 7 feet (2.13 meters) tall and a former professional basketball player. [1]
With his large size, Ron was cast as hulking henchmen in a number of movies. Perhaps his best known film role is the hulking Nazi assassin Lothar in The Rocketeer (1991), which co-starred William O. Campbell, Paul Sorvino, Terry O'Quinn, Ed Lauter, Clint Howard, and Max Grodénchik. Ron also appeared briefly out of prosthetics as a different character in the same movie.
Ron also played one of the kidnappers in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994, which also starred Noble Willingham and Mark Margolis), Last Man Standing (1996, with Patrick Kilpatrick, Ken Jenkins, Chris Doyle, and Allan Graf), and Road House (1989, with Marshall R. Teague, Kevin Tighe, Anthony De Longis, and Patricia Tallman) and the comedy The Naked Gun (1988, with Ricardo Montalban, Lawrence Tierney, and Raye Birk).
He appeared in Alien Nation: Body and Soul (1994) and Alien Nation: The Enemy Within (1996) as the Giant and the Queen Mother respectively, along with Gary Graham, Eric Pierpoint, Michele Scarabelli, Ron Fassler, Kerrie Keane, Leon Russom, Wayne Péré, Glenn Morshower, Marva Hicks, and James Parks.
