Sahsheer was a Kelvan word for a rapidly forming crystalline structure native to the Andromedan planet Kelva.
Kelinda, in an early exploration of her new humanoid senses, was fascinated by the blossom of a plant on the planet where she'd been stranded, and remarked to Captain Kirk that the flower resembled the sahsheer she had learned of from memory tapes. (TOS: "By Any Other Name")
According to former Saturday Night Live cast member Sasheer Zamata, her given name was taken from the sahsheer crystal from this episode. This has been referenced multiple times, such as in ABC's Match Game Season 2 Episode 12, aired 14 May 2017, where Zamata was a panelist, and the topic of her name came up when introduced by host Alec Baldwin. She also mentioned it during her stand-up comedy appearance on Episode 590 of CBS's The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, aired 27 July 2018.
