Soup was a type of food that consisted of a liquid base and meat, noodles, and/or vegetables.

One of Finnegan's many practical jokes was putting a bowl of cold soup in someone's bed. (TOS: "Shore Leave")

In the 2250s, a menu of Earth foods in the mess hall aboard the USS Discovery listed a ham schnitzel and a side soup. This food item was packaged in a big lunch pack, which was available from 11:00 to 17:00 hours. (DIS: "Despite Yourself")

In the final draft script of "The Corbomite Maneuver" (dated 3 May 1966), a bowl of soup was served by Yeoman Janice Rand to her commanding officer, Captain James T. Kirk. while in his quarters aboard the USS Enterprise. Kirk tasted and liked the soup, so he asked Doctor McCoy if he would like a bowl of it, though McCoy politely declined. The fact Kirk didn't finish his soup, as he was called to the bridge, distressed Rand. In the second revised final draft of the script for "The Corbomite Maneuver" (dated 20 May 1966), the food she served Kirk was instead dietary salad, which it is in the final version of the episode.
