Yard engineer was a supervisory engineering position, under yard superintendent, held by an engineer who oversaw an engineering team's work during new starship construction or refit in a shipyard.
In Starfleet, these shipyards engineers were noteworthy individuals in coordinating the launch of Federation starships into service. The names of prominent yard engineers were often listed on the dedication plaques of these vessels.
